Churchill Centenary
In the run-up to the 1908 general election, Churchill used the Queen's Hotel as his campaign headquarters and it was here, just minutes into the morning of May 9, that his election victory was declared paving the way for almost 15 years of parliamentary service to Dundee. Crowds of supporters cheered Churchill from the Nethergate as he celebrated his victory from the hotel balcony.
This election victory marked a pivotal moment in Churchill's progression from a young Member of Parliament to Cabinet Minister, Prime Minister, revered war hero and renowned statesman.
A specially commissioned set of commemorative tiles and photographic display marking the hotel's association with Churchill is installed in the hotel foyer.
